Guideline for Outside Activities

6 Outside activity guideline

You need to participate in 2-3 workshops (at Listening and Speaking Center) and Record 3-4 conversation in your pair group. (If you can not be available for any of workshops, please go ahead to complete 6 conversations.)   

Due dates
 1,2,3 activities are due 2/13
 4,5,6 activities are due 3/28


(1) Workshops at Listening and Speaking Center
-Need to participate in 2-3 workshops.
-After each workshop, please submit;
(1) a validation note from the leader of the workshop
(2) a summary of the workshop you participated with one paragraph of 4-5 sentences.


(2) Conversation (Role Play) in a pair group
-Each activity needs to be done in a pair group
-Make 2-3 minute long conversation with each related topic. Record it and submit the audio file with a form. One file and two duplicated forms (with each participant’s name) need to be submitted by one pair group each time.

Available topics
(1)  Role play-Identity Theft (unit2)
Choose a role play situation. (please refer to pg 33 in North Star textbook)
Possible situations are as follows;
 -filing a police report
 -getting a call from a department store about a bill
 -giving a advice to a friend about identity theft

(2)  Radio station Interview-Endurance Sports (unit3)
- Make a Radio station interview on an endurance sport. Can be similar to the one in page 40
-Please try to make it sound exciting and vivid!

(3)  Casual conversation-Activity choice on your vacation (unit5)
       -Make a conversation between two people travelling together (refer to the activity #3 on pg. 88)
 -Discuss what kind of activity choice would be interesting to each of you and try to make suggestions!

(4)  Debating conversation –Reduction of Carbon emissions (unit9)
-Discuss on “What can individuals, government, and industry do to reduce carbon emission?” (refer to # 3 activity on pg. 168)
-Try to include debating skills, such as interrupting politely strategies and holding the floor strategies. (pg. 166-167)

(5) Marriage issues (Unit5)
  -Look at the situation listed on pages 141 and pick one situation.
  -Create a conversation trying to include words or phrases in the red box on the same page

(6) Story telling (Unit6)
   - Pick an interesting story which includes role-playing. (You can make up a story or just can use a story which already exists.) Take turns to play roles in the story. Try to make the story vivid and interesting with relevant tones in your language!
