As announced, the final exam will be taken in class at 6:30pm on Thurs, 3/27/14 in the same room, L33.
The exam will have about 70 questions. The 60-70% of the test will be on listening skills and the rest will on grammar, vocabulary words, and sentence structures. Also, on about 50% of the exam, you will answer with multiple choices and for the rest, you will write down on the sheet to answer.
Hope you can review unit 1-10 of North Star textbook over the week to prepare yourself for the final.

c. Please pick a controversial topic, which is related to any subject in the textbook. Your topic has to be RELATED TO one of the topics in the textbook. The purpose of presentation is to check how you utilize the vocabulary words, expressions, and other speaking skills we learned throughout the course. Again, it should be a controversial topic with pros and cons. In another words, you can either agree (pros) with the topic or disagree (cons) with the topic.
d. Once you choose your topic, you can try to position yourself on one side. Make a speech plan to persuade your audience with your position/opinion. Try to include reasonable supporting points with relevant examples. Some examples of desired topics are as follow.

Group Presentation
(each group will have 3-4 people)
Creating An Advertisement
You are now producing an ad for a new product and will present it to
the company soon. Your presentation includes an introductory speech to the product and
a brief note/summary on the ad. The actual performance of the advertisement
should be no longer than 1 min and 30 sec. Try to use the vocabulary, grammar,
pronunciation, and attention grabbers that you've learned in Unit 1.
Step 1: Plan the ad
-Choose a product you will be promoting and think of target audience of your ad.
-Decide on the appeal you will use and discuss on how you will get the
consumers’ attention.
-Discuss other techniques you can use in the ad (music,
catchy slogan, sound effects, funny voices, etc).
Step 2: Write a script and practice the ad.
-Make sure that each group member has equal amount of speaking portion
-Keep the ad not too long but precise and effective.
